My parents were married twenty-seven years ago today, in a small church in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. They were not even twenty years old, hadn’t hit the “quarter-life crisis” and by many standards probably didn’t know exactly what they wanted from life. It is a point of pride to be able to say they are still going strong a little less than three decades later.
My relationship seems brand-new in comparison and I know there is a lot to learn from my parents; a lot of wisdom they have to share. Brings to mind a glass trinket my dad gave my mom some years ago, which she kept on her dresser… It said “if ever a day goes by that I don’t tell you “I love you,” always know that I do.”
Happy anniversary Madre and Padre. I pray you share many, many, many more.
