I am sure you have, at some point in your life, been told that it gets better. It’s what people say when they don’t want to say they are sorry (or they already have) and have nothing else to say.
“It gets better.” A comment to which my retort has always been, “When?” From there, the conversation usually goes one of two ways. Either they say they don’t know or they say “soon.”
And neither of those answers is good enough for me. The truth is, it might never get better, but we are taught to hope, taught to believe that it could, that it might….that some day we will all wake up with greener grass on the other side. For now, I’m still watering dirt, hoping something will grow.
