Bunny Tails – Take Two

I was organizing my craft room the other day when I re-discovered a tote chock full of the pom-pom or bunny tail yarn. It’s basically been calling my name ever since, so I decided to finally put it to use and make another blanket.

Years ago, literally, I found an awesome pattern for making a baby blanket on the diagonal – which looks super cute with the pom poms – but I couldn’t find it anywhere! I thought I had downloaded it to my computer, then realized that was my computer with the exploded battery so it was all but lost on the interwebs. Then I remembered that I linked to it on my blog, so searched for that post and voila’, back in business. Was kind of cool finding my blog on Google search results too. First page, might I add. Probably why that’s one of my most popular blog posts, ever.

I am pretty sure that blanket was my first attempt at knitting anything other than a scarf and I almost quit a dozen times. I clearly remember it taking forever and being very frustrated, the movements and circular needles felt foreign, having learned to crochet first. I actually didn’t pick up knitting needles for another four years after finishing the blanket (and now I love both knitting and crocheting, but that’s a post for another day).

That blanket was my favorite to use for so long! The poms made it super thick and warm, perfect for our Winter spent in Washington. And it made an amazing pack and play “padded sheet” for a while there when he was transitioning to napping on his own – something that didn’t last for long! And best of all, it held up to machine washing and drying, although any I keep for myself in the future will be air dried, for sure.

So here’s what I have so far on the new one. I am one and a half skeins into a six skein blanket, which is more than the pattern calls for, but I wanted a very generous sized blanket. It’s super easy, really. Casting on the first stitch was the most difficult part, and I definitely encourage you to use Youtube to see how others have done it if you don’t have much knitting experience.

Anyway, back to knitting now. This blanket will make it into my Etsy shop in the next couple of days, but for now, the kiddo is feeling unwell with a fever for the second day in a row and this momma’s got a cup of coffee calling her name. Last night’s insomnia-induced 1am bedtime is not treating me very well today. Thank you, hormones and anxiety and life, thank you very much.

Love,

Michelle

Return to sweater weather..

This is the first morning in a long time I had to turn the fan off in my room because I was freezing. The first morning I chose to put on long yoga pants and a sweater when I got out of bed, and the first morning a gigantic cup of sweet and creamy, caramel colored coffee sounds amazing.

Too bad I haven’t used my keurig brewer in about five months.. or else I would totally be making a cup! I have let it sit far too long for me to think the water in it is “safe” to drink. I don’t know if that’s a valid concern or not, but even the idea of drinking moldy, stale water grosses me out.

Not even the lure of a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks can get me out of the house this early though.. The sun just broke through the clouds and I am far too sleepy to be behind the wheel.

Too Much

I have too much to say; too much on my mind. It’s just about nine right now, and I have to be at  the Seattle-Tacoma airport at 11:30ish tonight to pick up my mom. I had mentioned before that she is staying with me for ten days to help me move and get settled into the house and those ten days start tonight, technically.

I still need the sheets to finish drying and make up the bed and put the dishes away that are drying on the dish rack. It’s funny, growing up my mom would always freak out when my grandma was coming to visit and I never understood why everything had to be super clean and organized. Obviously my grandma raised my mom, so she must have known my mom wasn’t that organized… but knowing that my mom was coming, I made sure both the house and apartment looked the best they could! It was like a compulsion.. And it was no easy task to accomplish because I’m basically living in two places.

Today was a hard day otherwise.. Logan is in Hawaii for the weekend and should be back in Washington very early in March. I foolishly expected him to text or call more than he seemed to want to and today just didn’t go how I expected. Sighs.. being a Navy wife is definitely taking some getting used to… and realizing that my husband WILL act different around different people and realizing that I don’t always like my husband. I think that’s the thing about marriage even more so than dating; not liking your significant other is not reason to run away. You have to work it out. And when the person you’re married to runs away, it hurts, because you’re left there alone, holding your relationship together.

Blah, blah, I don’t know. I’ve got my cup of coffee and Kitchen Nightmares on Hulu.com to keep me company for the next hour until I have to leave.
